CAPITAL HIGH SCHOOL

Important Graduation Information

CLASS OF 2018

GRADUATION:

The commencement exercise will be Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 7:00 pm at Boise State’s Taco Bell Arena.

Seniors are to report to the arena on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 6:15 pm for final instructions and to line up for the processional.

REMEMBER:  Seniors who are receiving a failing grade must check with their counselor no later than Monday, May 7th. Failure to meet with your counselor may result in student not walking in the commencement ceremony.

IMPORTANT:

We are asking that parents, friends, and students attending graduation maintain a dignified and respectful decorum by not whistling, yelling, or indulging in loud and boisterous conduct.  No artificial noise makers of any kind are allowed in the arena.  Taco Bell Arena personnel will confiscate any noise makers that are seen or used during the ceremony.  Please make it a memorable experience for every family. The purpose of graduation is to honor each graduate for their accomplishment in a dignified ceremony.

PARKING & ACCESSIBILITY:

Free public parking is available to attendees in the lot at University and Broadway and the parking garage at University and Lincoln Ave.  Please do not park in spaces with signage designated for specific purposes or service vehicles. All metered spaces require payment at all times.  Accessible parking spaces are reserved for guests requiring those provisions.

Wheelchair spaces are limited and specifically for patrons with this need.  These spaces are located on the Parquet Level, Sections 6, 7, 9, 12, 15, 17, 18 and the Mezzanine Level, Section 34. Adjacent companion seating is available in these areas.

REHEARSAL:

The graduation rehearsal will be Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 10:00 am.

Seniors should report to the Auxiliary Gym at the rear of the Arena where they will be assisted in finding the proper line of march.  All students planning to participate in the graduation ceremony MUST be in attendance at the rehearsal.

If a senior does not report for practice, it is assumed that he/she will not participate in the evening commencement exercises, and his/her name will be removed from the marching line.

CAPS AND GOWNS:

Students may pick up their cap and gown in the cafeteria on Thursday, May 17 from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm.

All books must be returned and fines paid before students will receive their cap and gown.  In order to promote a sense of unity and decorum, no decoration is allowed on the cap or gown (i.e. no leis, corsages, medallions, etc).

GRADUATION ATTIRE:

Graduation is a formal occasion.  Suggested attire for male graduates is a dress shirt and tie, slacks, and dress shoes.  Suggested attire for female graduates is a dress or a nice top with a skirt or slacks and low-heeled shoes.

Students who wear cutoffs, shorts, flip-flops and other inappropriate attire will be asked to change or not participate in graduation.  Graduates may need bobby pins to secure their cap. In order to promote a sense of unity and decorum, no decoration is allowed on the cap or gown (i.e. no leis, corsages, medallions, etc).  CHS Class of 2018 stole and NHS honor cords are the only allowed additions to the graduation gown. Honor cords will be distributed to qualifying graduates the night of graduation.  Please do not bring purses or coats as there is no place to lock them up. The tassel is hung on the right side of the cap, during the graduation ceremony it is moved to the left side of the cap.

GRADUATION BEHAVIOR:

Participation in the graduation exercise is optional and not required to receive a diploma.  Graduation is for the whole class, not individuals. If a student chooses to be part of the ceremony, behavior appropriate for a formal, dignified ceremony is expected.

GRADUATION PICTURES:

Lifetouch will take graduation pictures.  Free proofs will be mailed within two weeks after graduation with ordering and pricing information.  There is no obligation to buy anything. Graduates will also receive information at graduation rehearsal.  Parents and the public are not permitted on the Taco Bell Arena floor.

DIPLOMAS:
